Starting 2023 On The Wrong Foot...

The new year is a time when we all have an opportunity to analyze our strengths and weaknesses and make a pledge to do better. Become smarter, safer, more responsible and proficient in all we do. It's a noble attempt at improving ourselves. Unfortunately, for many of us, we fail miserably at accomplishing our goals. This latest example highlights the failed mindset most Americans have about being an armed citizen. Not a full two days into the new year an Ohio woman was working her way through the security checkpoint at the Pennsylvania International Airport. The TSA officer screening her carry-on backpack, found a loaded .380 semi-auto pistol inside her makeup purse that was contained in the backpack. The fact that the firearm was in the woman's carry-on bag is not the worst part about this story, although we often stop there and chalk up another win for the TSA and record the yearly tally. Safety 101... Left To Fate

Understanding the boundaries and limitations we place on ourselves and our loved ones are important aspects when doing a self-evaluation of our personal safety. The critical step in this evaluation is to be honest about our behaviors and how they affect our safety. In the early hours of New Years day at approximately 0200hrs, a 13yo male juvenile was lighting fireworks outside his home which as located near N 61 st and Ogden St in Omaha, Nebraska. A vehicle drove past the juveniles home during which time gun shots rang out from the vehicle. The juvenile victim was struck at least once. Luckily he was able to make his way back into his home to get help. The juvenile is expected to survive his wounds. Neither the suspect vehicle nor it's occupants were able to be identified. This is a sad situation for any neighborhood. The young victim was not bothering anyone, nor was he a threat to the occupants of the vehicle who assaulted him.
